The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

Hello fellow readers, and welcome to spooky season! This is my time of the year to shine! I’ve had my eyes on this book for so long as I’m a huge fan of the original TV show Bewitched and I got those vibes as soon as I saw this book come across my radar.

Thank you Avon books for my gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

Synopsis: Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two. That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendant of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all. Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.

Honestly, I couldn’t have imagined a better book to enter the fall season with than this one. I absolutely loved it! I loved the contemporary setting with really creative fantasy touches. It’s high on the romance level, so if that’s not something you’re into or wanting to read at this time, save it for later. The humor and charm in this book was excellent and a much needed reprieve from real life. I can’t wait for more in this world!

Trace of Evil by Alice Blanchard

I’m in LOVE with this cover! A sleepy mountain town with witchcraft and a mysterious murder…can’t ask for a better suspenseful novel!

Thank you Minotaur Books for my gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

Synopsis: Natalie Lockhart always knew she was going to be a cop. A rookie detective on the Burning Lake police force, she was raised on the wisdom of her chief-of-police father. These cases will haunt you if you let them. Grief doesn’t come with instructions. But the one thing her father couldn’t teach her was how to handle loss. Natalie’s beloved sister was viciously murdered as a teenager, and she carries the scars deep in her heart. Although the killer was locked up, the trace evidence never added up, and Natalie can’t help wondering―is the past really behind her? As the newest member on the force, Natalie is tasked with finding nine missing persons who’ve vanished off the face of the earth, dubbed “the Missing Nine.” One night, while following up on a new lead, she comes across a savage crime that will change everything. Daisy Buckner―a popular schoolteacher, wife to a cop, and newly pregnant―lies dead on her kitchen floor. As Natalie hunts for Daisy’s killer in the wake of the town’s shock, her search leads to a string of strange clues―about the Missing Nine, about Daisy’s secret life, and reviving fresh doubts about her sister’s murder. As the investigation deepens, Natalie’s every move risks far-reaching consequences―for the victims, for the town of Burning Lake, and for herself.

I’m pretty sure this book couldn’t have come out at a better time. Spooky, thrilling, and full of spell-binding mysteries. I loved it! I couldn’t put it down! What great writing! Highly recommended.
