Memorial Day Weekend reminds me of road trips. My husband and I chose this read as our last road trip audiobook.
Clay – a technology guru from san fran, is in need of a new job and comes across Mr. Penumbra’s bookstore. He quickly learns that this is no ordinary bookstore as he sees multiple people come “rent” books from the store instead of buying them. With his technological coding skills, he creates a program to track these rentals and heads out on an adventure to find out the true mystery behind this books and the people reading about them.
I’m glad we picked this! What a fun and engaging read, especially for a car ride. It was comical at times and really had us going for awhile as to see what was behind the mysterious book club. I’m not quite sure why this is selected as a fantasy novel (at least our local library set it as such). We were looking for more magical adventures than what truly happened. The ending was a bit anti-climatic for us. We were hoping for some extravagant mystery that would blow our minds. It was more of a slow and steady finish. All in all, I would listen to it again. I probably wouldn’t pick this up to read again.
